How It Works

We built Alloy on top of WordPress’s native Gutenberg content editor to deliver WordPress-native performance, simplicity and maintainability at professional grade while dramatically reducing cost and time to delivery for our customers.

Reusable layout components customized to your brand are at the center of Alloy, forming a shared design system that keeps pages consistent, makes editing easier for content teams, reduces technical debt, and helps the site scale over time.

This approach delivers all the benefits of WordPress pagebuilders (such as Divi, Elementor, Visual Composer or Beaver Builder) without pagebuilders’ well-known drawbacks (performance, efficiency and data lock-in). In short, it’s a way to get “the best of both worlds” out of WordPress.

Why we built it

For clients selecting a WordPress solution, the choice between a fully custom WordPress build (often too complex for what’s needed) and a pagebuilder-assisted WordPress build (often not scalable) seemed less than ideal. We decided there could be a “middle way” and a better way, so we built one.

Alloy May Be a Fit for You If

  • You want a website your team can confidently manage after launch
  • You’re tired of plugin sprawl and fragile pagebuilder workflows
  • Your current website is difficult to maintain, extend, or scale
  • You want to launch quickly without sacrificing quality

Alloy May Not Be a Fit If

  • You need highly bespoke application-like functionality
  • Your organization requires pixel-perfect control over every page and layout variation
  • Your site is centered on custom, relatively unique data types
  • You expect unlimited design flexibility without system constraints

FAQs

Yes. Your Alloy website is built on open-source WordPress and is fully owned by your organization. There are no proprietary platforms or licensing requirements, so you can evolve your website however you want and host it wherever you choose.

Yes. Our Alloy process includes migrating content from your existing website whenever possible. We also take the opportunity to organize and structure that content so it works naturally within your new publishing system.

Yes. Everyday publishing shouldn’t require developer support. Alloy gives content teams the tools to create and publish new pages confidently using reusable components, while we’re here to help with new functionality, design enhancements, strategic initiatives, and whatever comes next.

Alloy is designed to balance flexibility with consistency. Rather than offering unlimited design freedom, Alloy provides the flexibility most organizations need through a curated library of reusable components and structured editing. The result is a website that’s easier to manage, more consistent, and built to evolve over time. As your organization’s needs change, new components and capabilities can be added without rebuilding the foundation.

No. Alloy websites can be hosted with any WordPress hosting provider. However, hosting with Culture Foundry allows you to take advantage of ongoing Alloy improvements, security updates, performance enhancements, and new publishing capabilities as they’re released.

Yes. Alloy is built with accessibility, performance, and search engine optimization in mind from the start. Every implementation follows modern WordPress best practices, providing a strong technical foundation for accessibility, fast performance, and SEO.

Alloy isn’t a pagebuilder. It uses WordPress’s native editor and a curated library of reusable components designed specifically for your organization. You get the flexibility to create rich pages without the performance, maintenance, and long-term challenges common with many page builders.

Alloy isn’t a platform. It’s a faster, more economical path to an open-source WordPress website that you own rather than rent, with zero platform lock-in. It’s also “emphatically WordPress,” preserving you all the options that come with a site built in the world’s most widely used content management system.

With an ongoing support partnership, WordPress updates become one less thing your team has to think about. We manage core, plugin, and platform updates, monitor security and uptime, and ensure your website continues running smoothly. At the same time, you’ll continue to receive Alloy enhancements and new publishing capabilities as they’re developed.

Yes. That’s exactly what Alloy is designed for. Organizations evolve, and your website should too. Whether you’re expanding your content library, adding new page types, introducing new functionality, or refreshing your design, Alloy provides a scalable foundation built to grow with you. And when your needs go beyond what Alloy provides out of the box, our team is here to help you continue evolving your digital presence.
